No referral is required and there’s no charge for the first appointment. You’ll get a full orthodontic exam, digital X-rays, a scan of your teeth and an honest answer about whether treatment makes sense right now. Some patients leave with a start date. Others leave with a note to check back in a year while more teeth come in. Either way, you’ll know where you stand before you pay anything.
Meet Dr. Matthew J. Olmsted, DDS, MS
Twenty Years of Bites, Faces and Second Opinions
Dr. Olmsted studied biological anthropology and anatomy at Duke, where he also swam for the varsity team, then went on to earn both his DDS and his master’s in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a clinical assistant professor at the UNC School of Dentistry, where he helps train the next group of dentists.
What that means in the chair is that every case gets planned around the whole bite and the face it belongs to, not just the front six teeth people notice in photos. He’ll tell you when treatment can wait, and he’ll tell you when waiting will cost you.
